What are Invisalign braces?
Invisalign bracesInvisalign has revolutionised the world of orthodontics. It was the first clear aligner brand and probably the best-known system of aligners. Now there are many different aligner systems. They are all designed and made to fit over your teeth, like a mouthguard or transparent retainer, for discreet yet effective teeth straightening. We usually recommend Invisalign or SureSmile aligners.

How do clear aligners work?

We use 3D planning software to show you how your teeth will move throughout treatment and create  a fully customised plan. A video is produced of the proposed tooth movement and once this is approved, a series of aligners is manufactured. Every 10-14 days of your treatment you will wear a new aligner so that, over time, your teeth gradually move into their new position. We like to see you about once a month to make sure your treatment is progressing as it should.

Are clear aligners right for me?

Many patients choose aligners for their clear appearance as they are barely visible. They may be removed when needed, whether for eating, drinking or cleaning your teeth. You may take a few days to get used to then and generally you should be able to speak normally whilst wearing them.

Aligners are a popular alternative to braces for patients with simpler requirements for teeth straightening. However, for more complex alignment requirements, for instance involving your bite, aligners might not be the most effective treatment option for you. Due to the SureSmile software we use at the clinic, we find we can integrate fixed braces on one arch with aligners on the other, helping to customise the treatment to your specific needs.
