Life as an Orthodontic Therapist

Life as an Orthodontic Therapist

I started my career in dentistry in 2011 as a general nurse, after joining The London Lingual Orthodontic Clinic I was introduced to the wonderful world of orthodontics by Dr Asif Chatoo. It was in this first experience that I fell in love with the speciality of lingual braces.

After working with Dr Chatoo, I decided to gain further qualifications as an orthodontic nurse in 2014 and was supervised by Dr Chatoo in 2018 where I was able to train as an orthodontic therapist with King’s College – fully qualifying after successfully passing the exam with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

I have had the opportunity to work with various different Orthodontists, and each one of them has different preferences. From brackets systems to arch-wires sequences, each provided insight into different ways to approach patient treatment.

Each orthodontist has their working preferences and as a therapist, I have learned to adapt to each one of them. This has given me access to great knowledge and so many different techniques that will enrich my portfolio of experiences.

The experience I gain from working in different practices goes far beyond just technical skills. I am continually exposed to different software packages used throughout the working day, including but not limited to different 3D scanning software tools for the collection of 3D images.

Orthodontics is such an amazing world, evolving every day. I have had the opportunity to meet a number of professionals coming from every walk of life and different countries, enriching my world with different experiences.

I feel very grateful to be able to return to work at the London Lingual Orthodontic Clinic with Dr Chatoo as I have always considered him to be my mentor and an inspiration for my career.

The thing I love the most about orthodontics is the journey I am able to take with all of my patients. Being able to empower them with the confidence that a beautiful healthy smile gives is the most rewarding thing I gain from my job and I’m looking forward to helping many more patients achieve this.
