How long is the orthodontic treatment?
The treatment time will vary depending on the complexity of the problem. Each treatment is based on a comprehensive and individually personalised treatment plan. The treatment can take anywhere between 6 to 24 months.
How do the braces feel?
Just like normal braces, lingual braces may be uncomfortable for the first 7-10 days. During this time:
Will lingual orthodontic treatment affect my speech?
Most people do notice a temporary change in their speech. This generally improves after an initial period of adaptation. The brackets we use minimise this problem. If speech is a concern, we can refer you to a speech therapist.
How easy will it be to clean my teeth?
It will be more challenging because you will need to spend more time to keep your teeth clean. You should see a hygienist to have your teeth cleaned professionally every 3-4 months during treatment. We have two hygienists working in the practice as it’s Asif’s policy to ensure that patients’ teeth improve from all perspectives, including their dental health.
What can I eat?
During your first week in braces, we recommend that you choose soft, easy-to swallow foods, such as soups or smoothies. You can find some delicious recipes that should suit you written by nutritionist Farzanah Nasser in our blog.
Will my teeth stay in the same position after treatment is complete?
We ask all our patients to wear retainers in order to protect their investment in their newly straightened smile. Wearing retainers is the only way to guarantee the stability of treatment.
I live overseas, is it possible to become a patient?
We welcome patients from overseas who are able to travel here for their appointments. To make this easier, we are happy to help with hotel bookings and travel plans. Many of the UK’s top medical, health and beauty clinics are a short walk away from our Wimpole Street clinic, so combining your orthodontic treatment with other appointments is easy to do.
